The successful economic development of Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea after the war aroused great concern of the world. In the “four little dragons,” Hong Kong and Singapore have benefited greatly from their unique geographical and historical environment. Taiwan and South Korea share similarities with the conditions of most developing countries and regions, and their experiences and lessons in economic development deserve more attention. Tibor Scitovski’s essay compares the common economic achievements of Taiwan and South Korea with the different paths of development and is thought-provoking and worth reading.
