The concept of traditional centralized elderly care building space design is based on the vulnerability of the elderly.Compared with this concept,the "positive elderly care" emphasizes on the reduction of psychological dependence,realization of self-value and the encouragement for getting more involved in social activities.This paper would firstly start from the concept of "positive elderly care" and then analyze current modem cities aiming at centralized elderly care building space design and the defects of facility design.Secondly,the importance and feasibility of changing the single functional frame of centralized elderly care building space to compound functional frame within city planning and architecture design scope would be discussed.Finally,it would show the method of compound functional elderly care building space design regarding to the combination of planning and lay-out,function and organization,modes of operation.This method would further improve the quality of living environment for the elderly,shifting the key design factor from elderly care to catering for the elder people.Hopefully,this would somehow benefit the development of our aging cities.
