无生命名词作不作主语是中英文句法截然不同的地方。中国人喜欢以有生命的东西作主语,说话者直接说明自己的观点或感受;而英语则不同,它有许多句子常用无生命名词作主语,运用拟人法的手段,形象生动地把客观事物对人产生的效果表达出来。英语中有大量动词,常与作主语的无生命名词连用,表示无生命事物的运动、变化和作用。常见的动词有:brine,cause,desert,enable,find,keep,make,prevent,remind,show,see,witness 等。
