In this review, we review the recent advances in the complex roles of metabolic pathways in the process of aging, with a focus on the important contradictions that emerge, with a particular focus on healthy longevity to improve people’s quality of life. Aging is due to the degenerative function of the process of maintaining body state over time, resulting in an increased risk of illness and death. Metabolic characteristics of the aging process are the physiological decline of IR, changes in body composition, growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and sex hormones.
