社会主义社会和任何社会形态一样，都是一定的经济、政治和思想文化的统一体。物质文明是基本特征，精神文明是重要特征，社会主义的本质和内容。不仅体现在创造更多的物质财富上，而且更重要的是体现在更高的精神文明上，物质生产是精神生产的前提和保证，精神文明推动物质文明的发展，并保证其方向。物质文明和精神文明是统一的奋斗目标，二者共同进步，协调发展。为此，要做到两手抓，两手都要硬。
Socialist society, like any social formation, is a certain unity of economy, politics and ideology and culture.
