The design of scroll compressor is discussed. Thrust bearings are the key components of scroll compressors used in air conditioning and refrigeration for long periods of time. Axial thrust and torque have an impact on the thrust bearing. The thrust load bearing condition is described using the Rumbarger theory. How to optimize the geometry of the scroll wrap is also a major concern for designers. The problem of how to optimize the geometry of a scroll wrap is considered in consideration of stable operating conditions, weight, axial thrust, and roll outer diameter. In determining the thrust bearing outer diameter size, the optimal design should be to reduce the roll lap overturning moment.
