The external jugular vein (EJV) starts slightly below the mandibular angle and runs along the midline of the clavicle along the sternocleidomastoid line, obliquely across the sternocleidomastoid muscle. In the subclavian triangle, through the deep fascia, import subclavian vein. Although it is known that EJV may have a valve at the junction with the subclavian vein, its distribution and morphology are not well understood. EJV is commonly used as an anastomotic vein for microsurgical reconstructions. One of the reasons for the failure of free tissue transplantation is that the anastomotic blood vessels are blocked by thrombus. Valve located in vascular anastomosis area, even can cause thrombosis, leading to surgical failure. The purpose of this study was to determine the distribution, size, and morphology of the EJV valve and to explore ways to avoid valvular involvement when the vessel is anastomosed.
