Arthur Welly (1889-1967) is a world renowned sinologist. The Encyclopedia Britannique introduced him as: Wiley the most outstanding Orientalist in the first half of this century and the most outstanding translator who translates Eastern languages into English. From 1916 to 1964, he translated and published about 40 books and monographs and translations on Chinese and Japanese literature, 80 articles and 100 book reviews. Weili’s outstanding contribution has been highly recognized by international academia, the British government and East-West readers.
