Russia’s retail market is experiencing a new wave of expansion. On the one hand, many large-scale retail chain companies in Germany, Britain and France are actively preparing to enter the Russian market. For example, the UK-based Marks & Spencer retail chain, which has 155 chain stores in 28 countries around the world, is poised to set up its first hypermarket in Moscow’s Megija Trade Center in about two months and plans to build a UK-based supermarket next year in other parts of Russia. On the other hand, companies in Russia that run large-scale trade centers and supermarket chains are aggressively moving to other regions in order to move quickly to gain access to the best sites to expand their markets or rent out to foreign chains. Experts predict that in the next two to three years, intense competition will likely make large-scale trade and entertainment complex operators have to lower prices.
