The chief auxiliaries (previously known as “junjun”) are the organizational principles that must be followed in the prescription medicine of traditional Chinese medicine. The overwhelming majority of prescriptions for traditional Chinese medicine are compound prescriptions. It is based on dialectical and legislative principles and combines group medicines according to the needs of the disease. Each Chinese medicine has its own characteristics (taste, function, palliative, floating and sinking, etc.), mixed together to make it harmonize, play a comprehensive role, or reduce toxicity and potency, or make the drug increase and decrease, and extend the efficacy of the drug. With shortening, and with the principle of self-improvement, we must guard against the pathogenesis and perform our duties. This requires an organizational principle—the Lord, the auxiliary, the assistant, and the ambassador.
