陈永华在香港出生(1954年)、成长、接受教育,在多伦多深造有成后返回香港贡献所学,如假包换是位香港作曲家,但他较一般香港作曲家更“香港”,是因为他创作的作品,从题材、内容、精神,都极为“香港”。不仅如此,陈永华在作曲以外,还从事音乐教育、推广和指挥的工作,这些工作同样与香港社会具有密切关系;甚至音乐以外,他还参与其它社会性活动,为此,称他为香港的“香港”音乐家可能会更加贴切。
