《中国政要秘闻:跨出中南海》文革时期,由于田汉被打成右派,《义勇军进行曲》不能再唱了,《东方红》则成为代国歌,在许多群众集会时都会合唱这首歌。周恩来指示,要在大型音乐舞蹈史诗《东方红》中选用民主革命时期的音乐作品,其中包括贺绿汀作词作曲的《游击队歌》和田汉作词的《义勇军进行曲》。尽管有人提出,田汉正在受到批判,用他的歌曲不合适。但周总理的立场是“不能以人废言”的。
