The clashes between the imperialists and the controlling party within the Japanese military at home and in diplomacy led to the unprecedented coup of February 26, 1936. The February 26 Incident was not only related to Japan’s internal affairs but also had an important impact on the outside world. China was the first to bear the brunt of the incident. Therefore, both the Chinese ruling party and the ruling party are exceptionally concerned about this issue. After the coup took place, all the major Chinese media reported on the incident in a sustained manner. The background, causes, impacts, changes in political situation and the handling of aftermath were analyzed and discussed. On this basis, Chinese public opinion is more concerned with such issues as the changes in the Sino-Japanese relations triggered by the incident and the possibility of the outbreak of the Japan-Soviet war. The national diplomacy and the government diplomacy, which are represented by the folk media, complement each other and play a role of mutual cooperation and promotion.
