以MODIS遥感影像为数据源,利用ENVI遥感影像处理软件,对新疆2004年7月-2008年7月五期MODIS影像的植被指数进行计算,建立了五期植被指数密度分割模型,以获得全疆植被覆盖的整体状况。结果表明:全疆植被总盖度在2004-2008年呈现上升趋势,较低植被覆盖区较多,高、中植被地区主要分布在北疆的阿勒泰地区、伊犁河谷、北疆沿天山一代及阿克苏地区,低植被覆盖集中在南疆大部分地区及准格尔盆地。五年的植被指数比较结果表明,南疆地区低中覆盖区植被有所增加,高等植被覆盖区没有明显增减,北疆伊犁地区高覆盖区植被明显减少,阿勒泰地区中覆盖植被有小幅减少,低覆盖植被无明显增减。

The comparison of five-year vegetation index shows that the vegetation in low-middle cover area in southern Xinjiang increased, the upper vegetation cover area did not increase or decrease obviously, the vegetation in high coverage area in northern Yili area decreased significantly, the middle cover vegetation in altay area decreased slightly, Low coverage of vegetation no significant increase and decrease.
