At 1126 hours on 10 June 1984, at 1005 GMT, the United States intercepted and destroyed a flying ballistic missile warhead with a deadly “umbrella” over the Pacific Ocean. Warhead is empty. ’Umbrella’ is a prototype non-nuclear interceptor. In the future, the U.S. ballistic missile defense system will be based on such interception missiles. The plan to successfully destroy another warhead with one warhead is the U.S. Army’s $ 300 million Upper Expedition (HOE). The purpose of the HOE is to verify the feasibility of intercepting ballistic missile warheads with non-nuclear means outside the Earth’s atmosphere (so-called extra-atmospheric defenses). The Lockheed Missile and Space Company designed and developed the interceptor for the United States Army, which is also known as the Seeking and Destroying Class.
