外文现刊作为重要的信息资源深受广大教学、科研和医护工作者的青睐。但是,由于价格昂贵占用图书馆经费比重较大,无论在订购数量和学科覆盖面上都不可能完全满足读者需要。况且,许多从事科研、教学、临床工作的读者受时间、语种等的限制不能经常、大量地阅览外文期刊。因此,图书馆在努力完善、提高期刊馆藏建设质量的同时,组织部分外语水平较高的图书馆馆员有针对性地结合本单位的教学、科研、医疗,开展部分外文现刊的翻译工作,无论是对推动整个图书馆事业的发展,还是对推动图书馆读者工作的深化,提高期刊利用率等方面都具有较大的意义。
