隋以前碑版,有书人名可考者,南朝以陶贞白为第一,贝义渊次之。北朝以郑道昭为第一,赵文渊次之。其余南之徐勉,北之萧显庆、王长儒、穆洛、梁恭之,皆入能品。郑道昭云峰山上下碑及论经诗诸刻,上承分篆,化北方之乔野,如筚路蓝缕,进于文明。其笔力之健,可以(?)犀兕,搏龙蛇,而游刃于虚,全以神运。唐初欧虞褚薛诸家,皆在笼罩之内。不独北朝书第一,自有真书以来,一人而已。举世瞰名,称右军为书圣,其实右军书碑无可见,仅执《兰亭》之一波一磔,盱衡赞叹,非真知书者也。余谓郑道昭,书中之圣也。陶贞白,书中之仙也。
