In order to make the spiral welded pipe applicable to the shallow sea area, the finite element analysis was used to study the response of the spiral welded pipe under different load combinations, especially the S-shaped laying conditions. Focus on the spiral welded pipe and other commonly used in the industry compared to other types of steel. The ultimate state emphasized by submarine pipelines in DNV is analyzed and discussed in detail, such as rupture, crushing, axial tensile, local buckling and composite load. The analysis includes a nonlinear three-dimensional finite element simulation of a spiral welded pipe and takes into account the relative tolerances that may affect its ultimate state and the response to load and installation conditions. The results show that the use of spiral welded pipe in shallow water is not much of a problem.
