徐宗干(1796—1860年)字伯桢,自号树人,江苏通州(今南通市)人,少聪慧,喜收藏。嘉庆二十五年(1820年)进士。保和殿复试二等,殿试三甲第十七名。徐宗干一生堪称“学而优则仕,仕而优则学”的典范,所到之处除疏河筑堤、抚恤灾民外,特别重视修治学宫、编纂方志、搜集整理当地文人诗歌。自古以来,言传身教尊孔重教激励后学的委实不少,但能如徐宗干一以贯之地在所至之地以形象来传扬孔子精神,以艺术来熏陶士子心灵,并在两岸三地间传为佳话的的确也仅见。
