Fracture is one of the important ways of material failure. In the 1990s, the study of the mechanism of damage and fracture with the combination of macroscopic and microcosmic has become the forefront and hot point in the field of mechanics and materials science. National Nature Science Foundation and the former State Science and Technology Commission jointly funded the “Eighth Five-Year” major project “material damage fracture mechanism and macro-micro mechanics theory” by Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Science and Technology, Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences By the eight units, Huang Kezhi, Xiao Jimei two academicians as the project leader, after four years of hard work, excellent completion of the research mission. December 1997, the project successfully passed the acceptance of the expert group organized by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The major project in the following six aspects to improve the fracture damage mechanism of the material to further understand and enrich the knowledge of macro and micro mechanics theory.
