Liquid ventilation has been shown to improve gas exchange in animal models of respiratory failure, but only 3 cases of premature infants have been clinically reported to have RDS due to lack of surfactant. In order to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of some liquid ventilation in the treatment of respiratory failure in adults and children, the author conducted a clinical study of partial liquid ventilation. Nineteen patients with severe respiratory failure were observed, including 10 adults, 4 children and 5 full-term newborns.
