Edward W. Said elaborates on the humanistic criticism of the United States since World War II in his book Humanism and Democracy. By thoroughly examining the limitations of free humanism and post-structuralist criticism, Sayed advocates that literary criticism return to a historicist approach to research, namely the historical language advocated by Erik Auerbach and Leo Spitzer Hermeneutics. This short length of speech and collection of papers embodies the author’s philosophy of lifetime worship: humanistic literary criticism should be combined with social care.
