After the Kuomintang reactionaries launched the civil war, the people of the Kuomintang area were caught in dire straits. The book industry is particularly affected. Zhu Jingnong, general manager of the October 1947 General Meeting of Commercial Shareholders, reported on the operation in 1946: “In recent days, all kinds of things are expensive and all the expenses are mostly based on the living standard. The price of books can not be increased according to the living index. The average reader will be unable to buy books, while the powerful buyers may not have time to study, so the publishing industry is currently the most difficult undertaking. ”Zhu Jingnong, a Kuomintang government official, should not be exaggerated.
