三峡库区地处长江上游,在川鄂两省的结合部,面积5．99万平方公里,人口1600万,本区西起江津市,东至宜昌市夷陵区,沿长江狭长分布,是长江沿江地区经济带的重要组成部分,在促进长江沿江地区经济发展和我国东、西部地区的经济交流中占有十分重要的位置。随着我国对外开放逐步从沿海向沿江和内地推进,特别是三峡工程的兴建,这一地区的地缘优势更加明显,在全国经济布局中的地位更加突出。
