近几年来,车轮轴承向轴承单元方向发展。主要原因是,在许多场合下(主要是在前轮驱动时),对车轮的空间要求有限制。另外,车轮轴承趋向于现成装配、间隙固定,并具有最佳调整。过去常用的是双圆锥滚柱轴承,而现在常用的则是双排径向止推滚珠轴承,其第一代产品已有一些汽车厂采用。图1是其举例。采用此种轴承的车型有雪铁龙G 5,别儒504,西姆卡1100,菲亚特127、128、130,兰栖亚2000,奥贝耳“海军上将”,鲍许911,VW K70,NSU RO 80。
