Objective To understand the contents of 16 mineral elements in serum of type 2 diabetic patients and healthy individuals. Methods Serum samples were digested with constant pressure and wet method, and the concentrations of K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co and Ni in serum of type 2 diabetes and healthy people were measured by total reflection X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (TXRF) , Cu, Zn, As, Se, Rb, Sr, Pb and other 16 kinds of mineral elements, and comparative analysis of the content of these elements. Results The serum levels of Cr, Mn, Cu, Zn, Se, Sr and Pb in the two groups were significantly different (P <0.05 or 0.01), and the serum levels of type 2 diabetes mellitus The contents of these seven elements were (0.053 ± 0.002), (0.011 ± 0.002), (1.19 ± 0.04), (0.75 ± 0.04), (0.066 ± 0.002), (0.041 ± 0.002) (0.035 ± 0.004), respectively. The content of these seven elements in healthy population were (0.100 ± 0.010), (0.009 ± 0.001), (0.78 ± 0.02), (0.96 ± 0.01) and (0.114 ± 0.002) , (0.044 ± 0.001) and (0.021 ± 0.001) respectively. There was no significant difference in K, Ca, Ti, V, Fe, Co, Ni, As and Rb contents between the two groups (P> 0.05). Conclusion Serum levels of Zn, Cr, Se and Cu in patients with type 2 diabetes are significantly different from those in healthy people. Type 2 diabetes may lead to partial imbalance of some trace elements in the patients and may be supplemented with trace amounts of Zn, Cr and Se Elements, reduce Cu intake, regulate the balance of electrolytes in the body, to some extent, alleviate the symptoms of type 2 diabetes.
