北京是明清时代的都城,有坚固的城墙,分为外城、内城、皇城、宫城,外城包着内城,内城包着皇城,皇城包着宫城,今故宫又称紫禁城,当年也叫大内,是皇帝处理政务与居住的地方。故宫建于明永乐四年至十八年,至今已有570多年的历史,是我国现存规模最大、最完整的帝王宫阙。
