发生的症状有的田块的玉米生长到3—5片叶时,叶片出现褪绿症,发生的时间约在5月末至6月初,症状轻微的植株可延续到7月上、中旬,严重的植株节间变短,根部变褐,生育期推迟,甚至枯死。叶片褪绿症,不同品种反应不同。如自交系吉63,初期叶片为黄白色,叶尖为绿色,纵向至叶脉两侧为黄白色,叶缘呈绿色。又如自交系门14叶脉两侧暗绿,叶片呈紫绿混合色。因为发生褪绿症初期的玉米幼苗远远望去呈现一片花白色,故称为“花白苗”。
