关于从有色金属矿石中回收金的问题,北高加索矿冶研究所已进行了多年的研究。现在,为了提高从乌鲁普斯克矿区和盖依斯克矿区黄铁矿中附带回收的金的回收率,北高加索矿冶研究所又与国立有色金属科学研究所、盖依斯克选厂、乌鲁普斯克选厂的全体研究人员共同进行了研究。两个矿区的矿石都是一般的铜-锌黄铁矿。铜、锌和铁的硫化物呈细粒共生。黄铁矿、黄铜矿、闪锌矿、斑铜矿是主要的金属矿物,次要的金属矿物有黝铜矿、辉铜矿、方铅矿。矿石中还含有自然金和自然银。金以不规则状的最小析出物的形式赋存在黄铜矿、黝铜矿、黄铁矿、石英等矿物中。
