九年义务教育三年制、四年制初级中学英语教科书是人教社与英国朗文出版集团有限公司合作编制而成的。教材的基本特点一、寓思想教育于语言教学之中。教材严格按照英语教学规律由浅入深地编选,教学内容渗透思想教育的因素,以利于学生树立正确的思想,培养良好的品德和行为习惯。入门阶段的教学内容主要反映学生的日常学习和生活。即使在有限的语言材料中,也注意灌输文明礼貌、尊师爱生、团结友爱、助人为乐、遵守纪律等品德教育。课本设计了中外学生同校学习的情景,便于介绍英语国家的生活习俗。随着教学的进程,教材的内容由课堂、家庭逐渐向社会各方面展开,引导学生认识世界,有助于发展他们的智力、开阔视野、提高思想道德和文化素质。第二、三,四册教科书和阅读训练中许多课文都富有教育意义,贯穿了爱国主义、国际主义、爱劳动、爱科学、爱集体等思想。有一部分课文反映了当代人类共同关心的问题,例如,
