Shortly after the Soviet Union Patriotic War broke out in 1941, the fascist invaders surrounded Leningrad in an attempt to cut off the city’s links with the outside world by savage bombardment and shelling and destitute the entire city. In the siege of the enemy, which lasted for 900 days, the people of Leningrad overcame the threat of hunger, coldness and artillery with an indestructible and stubborn determination to finally break the siege with the Soviet troops in January 1944. However, the people paid a huge price for winning the victory. Leningrad, with millions of people, nearly 700,000 died of starvation. The story of siege (Блокаднаякнига) describes this extremely tragic scene in the history of the Soviet Patriotic War.
