The crystalline forms of a large number of materials, from viruses to semiconductors, have the mystery of maintaining their distinctive shape and function. With the advent of powerful atomic force microscopy, researchers at the National Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the United States began to study the growth mechanism and the three-dimensional structure of crystals grown on various solutions at the nanoscale.
