The basic principle for determining the deposition temperature of pyroclastic sediments using the PTD method (ie, stepwise thermal demagnetization) is based on the stable thermal residual magnetization present in the rock. According to the relationship between the thermal remanence of rock and the temperature of accumulation, we can roughly divide pyroclastic sediments into four categories.
