社区建设与可持续发展是当前倍受人们关注的一对矛盾的共同体。一方面,社区建设推动着经济、文化、教育、科技和社会的不断发展,把人类的物质文明和精神文明不断推向新的阶段;另一方面,社区建设又是资源消费过程,并伴随着污染、废气物的产生,带来一系列的社区生态环境问题。人们一方面感受着社区建设所带来的城市功能的完善、生活质量的提高、社会文明的进步、工作效率的快捷;另一方面,又产生在社会转型期社区建设如何适应社会的新发展,满足人们需要的困惑,特别是受“形式主义”、“贪大求洋”等非理性思潮的影响,使人们对社区建设活动产生了许多疑虑和担忧,有人甚至提出社区存在是对生态的威胁,社区建设是反环境的观点。
