Explore how the unique growth experience of an only child’s alternative child affects the development of self-identification. Methods: Qualitative research methods were used to conduct in-depth interviews with three female university students who had only one child to replace children and were coded by the method of generic analysis. Results: The self-identity of only-child replacement children has experienced three stages of knowing and confirming their replacement of children’s identity, finding reasons for substitution, continuing or new self-identity and high standards of self-development. There are some key events in each stage , Such as gender identity, direct identity with the dead, etc. CONCLUSIONS: It takes a process to replace children’s self-identification and to never know the children who were born to integrate this experience.
