The O ~ (18) / O ~ (16) ratios (σ, ‰) of the whole rock samples from the Archean granites in southwestern Australia belong to similar Archean rocks (ie, 5.0 to 8.9 ‰) of the Canadian Shield. Gneiss and intrusive granitic rocks with different Rb-Sr age combinations and different tectonic positions show a wide range of σ numerical combinations. Although the existing oxygen isotopes and other chemical data are not sufficient for age or chemical composition comparisons, the oldest gneissic oxygen appears to be the youngest in the non-granulite facies (ie, the σ value is about 6.6 ‰).
