As China's average life expectancy and the number of elderly people increase year by year, oral health care for the elderly has been of great concern to everyone. The incidence of dental caries and edentulous teeth among Chinese elderly is high. According to a survey of oral health of 509 elderly people by Zhang Boyue in 1985, the caries prevalence rate was 40.9% and the number of missing teeth was 65.4%. In 1986, CHAI Zhi-jian conducted a survey on 1,200 elderly people with dental caries, with caries-bearing rate of 53.9% and tooth-missing rate of 84.6% . WHO ranked caries as the third most needed disease in the world after cardiovascular disease and cancer. Although dental caries are not as life threatening as the first two diseases,
