Spirulina polysaccharide is an important biologically active component of Spirulina. In 1991, Liu Lisheng et al. demonstrated that it had inhibitory effects on ascites type hepatocellular carcinoma cells and sarcoma 180 [1]. In 1996, Japanese scientists demonstrated that it had antiviral and immune-enhancing effects. In this study, Spirulina polysaccharides and polysaccharide proteins were extracted by hot water extraction and assayed for lung cancer cells, human leukemia lymphocytes, and gastric cancer cells.
