The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations recently announced a price index of 172.6 points in October, up 0.7% from the previous month and up 9.1% from the same period of last year. The main reason for the rise was the rise in international sugar prices and dairy products prices. Among them, the sugar price index rose 3.4% due to the lack of sugar cane in central and southern Brazil and India’s Maharashtra; the dairy price index rose 3.9% as the EU’s demand for cheese and butter continued to grow. Although the global wheat crop is expected to increase, the supply of fine-quality wheat declines and the Cereal Price Index edged up by 1%. This is the first time that the Cereal Price Index has been rising for three consecutive months.
