长江泥沙从地面侵蚀开始至控制站泥沙输出是一个复杂的泥沙运动系统。根据长江上游不同产沙区的分布特点;地面侵蚀物质颗粒较粗,归槽率较低,藕节状河谷地貌所造成的河流淤积,使输移比远小于1;加上工程栏蓄的影响;从而阐明五十年代至今长江上游地面侵蚀增量没有在干流测站的泥沙资料中引起系统偏离。
