14-3-3 proteins make up a highly conserved family of proteins widely found in eukaryotic cells, from plants to animals. The designation of 14-3-3 proteins originates from their location of migration in bidirectional DEAE-cellulose membrane chromatography and starch gel electrophoresis. These are acidic proteins with a pi around 5 and a molecular weight of about 30 kDa. 14-3-3 proteins are involved in the regulation of various biochemical activities. The λgt11 cDNA library of adults of Schistosoma mansoni was screened by DNA probe designed by hybridization with acetylcholinesterase, and the clone unrelated to acetylcholinesterase was isolated. One of the cDNA clones (A-15-1) was subcloned into the KSbluescript plasmid and sequenced by the chain termination method. Press intentionally
