Platelet-activating factor (PAF) is a phospholipid that has a variety of biological activity. It can activate platelets and other inflammatory cells and play an important role in allergic reactions and inflammatory reactions in respiratory and digestive systems. Platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase (PAF-AH) is able to hydrolyze and inactivate PAF and related oxidized phospholipids to exert an effective modulatory effect. This review summarizes the structural characteristics of PAF-AH, the impact on related diseases and the genetic polymorphism and the application of recombinant PAF-AH.
