话说一百年前,到处发动反清起义的孙文屡战屡败,陷于绝境,弹尽粮绝。不得已流亡美国,在科罗拉多的一个中国小餐馆打工,在脏兮兮的厨房里面洗盘子。突然,一个朋友狂奔而入,兴奋地嚷嚷:“孙文啊,不要洗盘子啦,革命爆发了,赶快回国当总统吧!”革命复活了,时为辛亥年的十月十日。革命如同春雷一般,总是出乎所有人的意料,来得出其不意。1911年的中国,气氛沉闷,革命正处于低潮。每天的报纸都有民变、骚乱的消息,但早已为人们司空见惯,麻木不仁。武昌首义的枪声,最初也不被当回事:
