在北京西南下白垩统发现数以百计的巴依萨昼蜓(Hemeroscopus baissicus)稚虫化石, 使这类近来在国际上争议很大的化石形态得到确认. 研究认为应划归蜻总科(Libelluloidea), 而且与现代的蜻科(Libellulidae)稚虫存在密切的演化联系. 虽然本层位大量出现的昼蜓成虫翅膀以往被认为主要呈现蜓总科(Aeschnoidea)特征, 但不应片面地以形态学对比而割裂它与这些稚虫化石的关系, 二者的对应关系是可靠的, 这里可能揭示了蜻科(Libellulidae)的祖先亲缘类型的早期演化. 京西昼蜓化石是划分热河昆虫群与卢尚坟昆虫群的最基本类型, 有着十分重要的地层学意义.
