Determination of pre-neonatal albumin, transferrin, albumin levels, to evaluate its value as a measure of nutritional status of newborns. Pre-albumin, transferrin, and albumin levels were measured in 17 preterm infants and 12 full-term infants with blood collected from femoral venous blood. The results showed that (1) prealbuminuria level of prealbumin (8 1 6 ± 2 0 9) mg dl was significantly lower than that of term infants (1 0 73 ± 2 2 9) mg dl (P 0 01) There were no significant differences in transferrin and albumin levels between children and full-term infants (P> 0.05). (2) The level of prealbumin in preterm infants was significantly increased 3 days after birth (P <0.01), while the levels of transferrin and albumin did not change significantly. (3) Neonatal body weight was positively correlated with prealbumin level. The body weight and prealbumin level in preterm infants and term infants were moderate (r = 0.44) and height (r = 0.87) respectively. Studies have shown that prealbumin levels help distinguish between LGA, AGA, and SGA, superior to albumin, transferrin in reflecting neonatal nutritional status
