1985年6月12日凌晨,湖北省秭归县境内长江西陵峡上段兵书宝剑峡出口北岸新滩镇发生了大规模滑坡(图1),滑坡总体积约1,800万米~2,摧毁了新滩镇,推入长江65米水位以下的土石体积约260万米~3。由于事前对滑坡地段做过详细的地质勘测工作,建立了严密的监测网进行长期观测,有较为准确的预报,因而使滑坡造成的损失减到了最小的程度。滑坡发生后,水利电力部长江流域规划办公室及时组织多年在该地区工作的技术人员奔
In the early morning of June 12, 1985, a large-scale landslide occurred in Xintan Town, north bank of the Xibao Gorge, the upper reaches of Xiling Gorge, Hubei Province. The landslide totaled about 18 million meters 2 and destroyed Xin Tan Town , Pushed into the Yangtze River 65 meters below the water volume of about 260 million meters 3. Due to the detailed geological survey of the landslide sites in advance, a rigorous monitoring network was established to conduct long-term observations with more accurate forecasts, thus minimizing landslide losses. After the landslide, the Yangtze River Basin Planning Office of the Ministry of Water Conservancy and Electric Power timely organized a number of technicians who worked in the area for many years
