Acronyms are useful and necessary, because they simplify, facilitate and accelerate modern communication.Acronyms in cardiology especially of cardiologic trials are increasing exponentially. As clinical trials in cardiology, especially interventional cardiology, seem to be the trend of the future, acronyms will keep on proliferatiny. As acronyms of cardiologic trials continue to be born almost daily, the need to make them easily understandable by and readily accessible to cardiologists, both invasive and noninvasive, readers of medical journals and clinical investigators become crucial. It is essential that when mentioned or used for the first time in any communication, these acronyms must be fully explained in order to avoid ambiguity, guesswork, misunderstanding, confusion, aggravation and frustration. Thare are several other important reasons why interventionists, investigators and authors should spell out all acronyms at the first mention. Acronyms may mean different things to different people. There could the be one acronym shared by several different trials. Whenever the first phase of a trial evolved into the second phase, certain letter in the same acronym often stood for a different word and thus the same acronym had a different connotation. Finally we even have acronyms made of acronyms. It is my ernest hope that the use of medical acronyms will somedary fade but I have faint chance of realizing it . At least, let clarity be not sacrificed by brevity I plea to let each acronym be spelled out every time(PLEASE).
