The excessive accumulation of fat in hepatocytes leads to structural and functional abnormalities in the liver. Rat model of fatty liver was established and administered with copper-niacin complex for 4 weeks. The results showed that the clinical signs and histopathological improvement of semi-synthetic rats receiving high-sugar, non-fat diet were more pronounced when copper-niacin complexes were administered at the same time compared with rats receiving a balanced diet Decreased fat in liver and blood, and disappearance of lipid droplets in liver tissue sections. In addition, liver weight / body mass index decreased, serum aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase levels also significantly reduced. Oxidative stress markers such as nitric oxide, lipid peroxides, glutathione, and superoxide dismutase were normalized. The study concluded that the copper - niacin complex can be used as a new chemical agents to reverse the steatosis of rat hepatocytes and restore the structure and function of liver cells. However, whether it can be used for the treatment of human fatty liver needs to be confirmed by clinical studies.
