八月八日清晨五时,在人民首都北京,一顆伟大的艺术家的心脏停止跳动了。——梅兰芳同志逝世了。中国人民为自己的鼓舞者的死去而悲痛,全世界人民,特別是接触过梅先生的戏剧表演的各国人民为这一东方艺术巨星的殒落而悲痛。梅先生的辞世是对中国和世界艺坛一个十分巨大的損失。許多亲近梅先生的朋友和追随梅先生的学生都对着梅先生的遺容而流泪、叹息;梅先生的灵車由首都剧場出发,經东西长安街向八宝山墓地行进的时候,多少青年男女追过来致敬,首都工、农、兵、干部、学生、市民平日多是梅先生的热情的观众,怎么不要对这位老老实实、勤勤恳恳为他們服务的大艺术家表示最后的哀悼呢!
