Harris’s Farinon Lightwave Working Group claims that it has developed a viable single mode for 45 Mb / s and 90 Mb / s long wavelength transmission systems with twice the repeaterless distance over existing multimode systems. The DLW 90 single-mode system delivers the equivalent of 1344 audio channels on existing commercial single-mode fiber with a transmission distance of up to 55 km (45 miles) and a bit error rate of better than 10 -10 The system margin is 6 dB.
